SD Inpres Nokobumbu lies in the highlands of Papua. 70 pupils, 4 teachers, and a head teacher who spent two hours travelling every morning.

Nokobumbu is a village in Kecamatan Bewani, Kabupaten Tolikara, high in the interior of Papua.
In April 2025 the village was hit by flooding and landslides after extreme rainfall; 459 families across Tolikara were affected.
The region has one of Indonesia's lowest scores on the Human Development Index: 51.74 in 2023, against a national average of 74.39.
That is exactly where a school matters most. SD Inpres Nokobumbu has about 70 pupils and four teachers, one of whom is also the head teacher. He travelled two hours every morning to get there.
To make his life a little less heavy, we bought him a motorcycle.
Every pupil also receives a basic kit: toothbrush, soap, detergent — things that are taken for granted in the Netherlands and are not here.
This project was funded by the contribution of three partners: Be-inc, Basiq Dental and Zwanenberg Advies.
Without them, no motorcycle and no kits. Their names are listed below, with reason.
We keep following the school and supporting it where we can. What changes — in pupil numbers, teacher attendance, what is still missing — you can read in the next report on this page.
